The Department of Road Materials Engineering in the school of Transportation Science and Engineering was built in Jan. 2009. It was developed from the Building Materials Group. The department is managing the civil engineering materials lab of the university.
There are eight faculties in the department, including one Professor, four Associate Professors and three Assistant Professors. The research interests of the department are including the fundamental researches of the building materials that have been applied in urban, highway and airport pavements or bridge structures, light weight concrete, durability and sustainability of concrete materials, especially the freeze-thaw properties with deicing salt and concrete protection techniques in cold regions.
In recent five years, the department finished more than 10 projects, published over 50 journal papers and 11 books, and won one first place and two second place of the Provincial Science and Technology Awards.
