I. Introduction
The International Winter School on “Cold-Region Smart Transportation Engineering Technology” is rooted in the distinctive characteristics of cold regions and closely focuses on the frontiers of cold-region smart transportation engineering technologies. Leveraging the geographic environment of cold regions and Harbin Institute of Technology’s strengths in transportation disciplines, the program builds an interdisciplinary innovation ecosystem integrating “Artificial Intelligence + Cold-Region Transportation + Engineering Practice.” In response to China’s national strategy of “Building a Strong Transportation Nation” and to global development needs in cold-region transportation, the program aims to explore innovative pathways for intelligent transportation infrastructure and safety assurance technologies under extreme climates, cultivate interdisciplinary talents with an international perspective and specialized competence in cold-region transportation, and promote global collaborative development of cold-region smart transportation technologies.
Through coursework and practice-oriented activities related to cold-region smart transportation engineering technologies, participants can gain insights into cutting-edge fields such as artificial intelligence and autonomous driving (perception and decision-making in icy and foggy environments), remote sensing and big data (for polar transportation corridor planning and disaster early warning), and low-carbon materials and green energy (power systems for transportation equipment in extremely cold environments). The Winter School provides participants with opportunities for academic exchange with leading domestic and international experts in cold-region smart transportation engineering technologies, as well as the chance to connect with academic peers worldwide.
II. Admission Requirements
This International Winter School program is open to graduate students from universities in China and abroad who are interested in and committed to cold-region smart transportation and who aspire to gain an in-depth understanding of knowledge in this field. Graduate students from diverse academic backgrounds are welcome to apply. Applicants should be enthusiastic about promoting mutual understanding and friendship among students from different countries, and should possess strong English speaking and writing skills to meet the needs of academic study and research.
III. Schedule(Tentative)
This International Winter School program will be delivered in English and will include two courses and four academic lectures. We have specifically invited leading experts and scholars from top universities in China and abroad—including The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, and Harbin Institute of Technology—to serve as the principal speakers.
Participants will conduct seminars in the form of group presentations and complete a results briefing and presentation.
